Easy and Crispy Whole30 Air Fried Green Beans

I grew up with canned green beans so once my mouth found fresh green beans it was love at first bite. These Whole30 air fried green beans celebrate the bean with no extras so you know the full flavor power of fresh green beans.

When researching air-fried green beans there are a ton of recipes that bread them and even though that looks epic and I’m going to try parmesan ones soon, I’ve found that the green beans fried with oil and a little bit of salt tastes the most flavorful and is so so so easy to make. We have air-fried green beans three times a week, and sometimes five. For this Whole30 air-fried green beans recipe we preheat the air fryer, dump the green beans in, spray them with oil, and add salt then let them fry for 9 minutes. That’s it and you’ll have a quick side with minimal effort loaded with nutrients that take minimal work and minimal thought on what to eat. If I don’t have the energy to get all creative with food then these are what I turn to, or I look for any veggie that air fries well. Squash is also brilliant air fried and so are mushrooms.

What is Whole30?

Whole 30 is a reset where you eliminate common foods that people have allergies or bodily issues with. I love that this approach allows an individual opportunity to discover what works for you. No two bodies are the same. I have an identical twin and even we have different food preferences and troubles.

On Whole 30 you eliminate certain foods for 30 days and replace them with whole foods. Love how it’s all in the name. After 30 days you reintroduce the foods you eliminated one by one and see how you feel. Then you pause for two days and go back on Whole 30 and repeat. A Whole 30 can be a Whole 60 when it comes to re-introduction. Read more about my tips after finishing five rounds in this article: My Top 12 Whole 30 Tips for Surviving and Thriving.

Ingredients for Whole30 Air Fried Green Beans

Avocado Oil – Avocado oil has a high smoke point and is Whole30 compliant. The flavor is pretty neutral so it’s eggcellent for frying.

Fresh Green Beans – You can usually find these in bulk at grocery stores or in the pre-bagged section. If you get the bagged version you can easily add the oil to the bag and toss the oil around that way.

Salt – We use sea salt to really get that salty flavor. Since this recipe is just the green beans, oil and salt you can taste every ingredient and they harmonize so beautifully. This is an explorational recipe when it comes to types of salt since they compliment each other so well. Try smoked salt or chipotle salt or fleur de sel.

Tools You Need For Air Fryer Green Beans

Oil Spray Bottle – Investment that then saves a blisston. Buying spray bottles already filled with oil is double the price or more of just buying the oil. Once you get this bottle you can just fill it yourself.

Ninja Foodi or Any Air Fryer

The Ninja Foodi was designed to be wide and hold things like entire turkey thighs. You can pressure cook something and then broil, bake or air crisp it (they’re trying to change the fried wording since it’s pretty myth like as it is more crispy than fried tasting).

I used the instant pot for a year and while it created delicious food I really started to miss crispy food, especially when doing a Whole 30. The Ninja Foodi can bake, broil, air crisp, steam, dehydrate and make yogurt just like the Instant Pot can. Instead of taking a full chicken to the oven to broil and having to energize the whole oven with heat, you just dump out the water, put the basket back in, and air fry or broil it in the same device.

While we used the Ninja Foodi for this recipe any air fryer will work. Only cook as many chicken nuggets in your air fryer as you can fit into the air fryer without them touching. You want the circulation of heat in the air fryer to be able to move between the nuggets for maximum air crisping.

How to Make Whole30 Air Fried Green Beans

Preheat your air fryer to 390 degrees for five minutes. While the air fryer pre-heats, you can remove the stems (we leave them on and just make a pile of the stems as you do with edamame). If you aren’t using spray oil then toss your beans with a tablespoon of avocado oil.

Once the air fryer is pre-heated then open the lid, add the beans and spray on the oil and add the salt then drop the lid and air fry for nine minutes.

Once finished immediately remove the beans so they don’t overcook. We serve our Whole30 air fried green beans with mayo as dip but feel free to use any dipping sauce you wish.
